Cancun, Q.R. — Three men who were allegedly part of a group that robbed a group of Cancun Hotel Zone taxi drivers have been arrested. They were caught by police who responded to the report of the 1:45 p.m. robbery outside a hotel Friday.
According to preliminary information, the group arrived at the hotel where other taxi drivers were known to gather. They arrived dressed as Cancun taxi drivers. Once there, they robbed the city drivers and then fled.
Members of the Tourist Police were first to respond to the report. The actual number of imitation taxi drivers that made up the group is not clear. The Cancun drivers were robbed of cash, cell phones and a radio assigned for the unionized drivers.
A search using city surveillance cameras located the get away vehicle at the end of the hotel zone. The gray Caravan they were traveling in was stopped and three people from inside arrested. Two others from inside the minivan managed to escape on foot.
