Three Americans injured in Cancun Hotel Zone crash

Cancun, Q.R. — A two vehicle crash in the Cancun Hotel Zone left three Americans injured and both vehicles heavily damaged. A van and an SUV collided at Kilometer 9.5 of Kukulkan Boulevard of the Hotel Zone around 8:00 p.m.

Emergency units were sent to the site after a 911 report was made requesting assistance. There, police located a city combi had come to rest on a section of concrete fence belonging to a restaurant.

The SUV involved was also heavily damaged on the front passenger side due to the hit. The vehicle was located turned sideways across Boulevard lanes with two doors opened. Municipal Transit responded to the report of the accident, finding three Americans who were inside at the time of the crash.

Three Americans, identified as 31-year-old Elizabeth “J”, 62-year-old Francis “J” and Layerine “D”, 55, were all transferred to Cancun hospital.

According to Cancun Police “A traffic incident with injuries is reported in the hotel zone of Cancun on Kukulkan Boulevard km 9.5 before the club area.”

Police have not provided details leading up to the accident or a possible cause. Those injured in the crash did not receive life threatening injuries. It is not clear if the Americans are tourists or residents.
