Targeted shooting leaves Cancun cyclist dead on busy avenue

Cancun, Q. R. — Witnesses said two men on a motorcycle pulled up behind a cyclist before shooting him dead. The unnamed man was found shot to death Friday night along Jose Lopez Portillo Avenue.

The man was riding on the sidewalk when he was shot and killed Friday night.

Police were sent to an area near the Lombardo Toledano neighborhood in response to reports of the 8:00 p.m. shooting. At the scene they found a male laying face down partially on the avenue.

He had been shot repeataly in the back while riding his bicycle. At least four shell casings were lifted from the scene.

The man was riding toward Puerto Juárez when two men on a motorcycle pulled up and shot him at point-blank range. The victim fell to the side of the road near the sidewalk.

Paramedics confirmed that he no longer had vital signs. The area was cordoned off by police who closed both lanes while they investigated. The deceased has not been named.
