Cancun, Q.R. — A woman was found slumped over in the lobby of a Cancun hotel Thursday after being shot several times. Police were sent to Hotel La Avenida on José López Portillo Avenue in response to the early morning shooting.
There, a female employee in her late 30s to early 40s was pronounced dead by paramedics. Early reports say an armed man arrived on foot, entered the hotel and shot the woman several times in a targeted attack.
According to reports, the man walked into the hotel around 7:00 a.m. where the now-deceased opened the glass door for him. They spoke for several seconds at which time he is reported to have asked her name. When she identified herself, he shot her several times.
Hotel video shows the thin man dressed in dark clothing. He walked into the hotel wearing a full motorcycle helmet. When he began shooting, the woman tried to hide behind the door before making a run for it through the lobby. She only made it a few steps before she collapsed against a lobby chair where she was pronounced dead by paramedics.

She was hit four times at close range in the chest and left for dead. Police found her in a partial sitting position against a chair in the hotel lobby. The hotel glass lobby door was left shattered.

Police lifted several .9 millimeter shell casings from the scene. The woman is reported to have been a front desk worker at the hotel. Police continue their search for the shooter, who fled on foot along José López Portillo Avenue.
Hotel surveillance cameras are being used to piece together the deadly shooting and help identify the gunman.
