Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun lifeguards rescued a man who they reported, was swept away by a rip current Tuesday. The swimmer, an elderly man, was returned to the sand and CPR applied while lifeguards waited for an ambulance.

According to available information, the 70 year old was rushed to hospital alive but died hours later. The accident happened in front of Playa Marlin in the Cancun Hotel Zone Tuesday.
In a statement, Cancun City Council said “a person was rescued who was swept away by a rip current in front of the Barceló Hotel, next to Villas Marlin.
“The Water Safety and Rescue Department, Firefighters and the Hotel Lifeguard carried out the CPR protocol, the emergency service was activated and the person was taken to the hospital.”

The unnamed man was with family when he was swept out by the strong current. Cancun lifeguards were able to revive him, however, he died shortly after being admitted to hospital.
