Cancun, Q.R. — Two members of a vacationing family were pulled from the sea by Cancun lifeguards early Saturday. The man and woman were swept out to sea while swimming at Playa Gaviota Azul in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
An on-duty lifeguard saw the two adults being dragged by the strong current. Both were returned to the beach, however, one did not respond to resuscitation efforts and was pronounced at the scene.
The second swimmer, a man, was transferred to a Cancun hospital in serious condition. The couple were vacationing in Cancun from Saltillo, Coahuila. According to preliminary information, the couple were partying with a group when two of them decided to go swimming.
