Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities have confirmed a man arrested during a raid last week in Cancun is the head of the Cancun Tourist Police. His arrest took place inside a home in SM 32 during a federal police operation.
Authorities say Erik “C”, identified by the operational code “Hurricane”, was arrested during a federal operation in Cancun and subsequently transferred by air to Chihuahua.
According to the National Registry of Detentions, he was admitted to the Criminal Justice Center of Ciudad Juarez. His name appears in connection with administrative and operational functions of that department, responsible for surveillance work in the tourist areas of Cancun.
Before taking this position, he held positions within the public administration of Chiapas. A gazette from the Congress of Chiapas records that in December 2015, he served as coordinator of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit of Cacahoatán.
Erik “C” was taken into custody by police at 12:22 a.m. during a raid on the night of September 25. The raid was conducted by members of the Secretariat of the Navy and other security corporations at a property in La Guadalupana of Cancun for alleged drug dealing.
Police remained at the site for several hours during the operation. The property where Erik “C” was arrested was seized. Authorities have not released possible charges against him or other details surrounding their investigation.
