Support beam breaks loose from pulley system killing Cancun construction worker

Cancun, Q.R. — A metal support beam that broke loose from a rope and pulley system on a construction site has left one dead. The afternoon accident happened on a building site in central Cancun Saturday.

Several men were on the ground attempting to hoist the beam to the top of a building when their pulley system gave way. The rope supporting the beam broke and hit two construction workers.

One was killed and officially pronounced at the scene. The second was taken to Cancun hospital with serious injuries.

The accident was reported at a construction site on Mero Street in central Cancun. Police and Civil Protection were at the scene from where municipal authorities began an investigation into the deadly worksite accident.

The construction site has since been shut down by city officials.
