Stepfather in custody in beating and stabbing death of Cancun girl

Cancun, Q.R. — The stepfather of a girl reported to be 10 years old has been arrested in her death. The girl was reportedly beaten and then stabbed to death Wednesday at the hands of her stepfather while her mother was at work.

Authorities were notified of the discovery of the girl by her mother Wednesday afternoon when she arrived home and found her daughter’s body. The mother ran to a nearby hospital in search of help. She was accompanied back to her home by a doctor who confirmed the child’s death.

Police were sent to the home in SM 93 between Miguel Hidalgo and Francisco I. Madero avenues in response to the official report of the death. Inside the home, Municipal Police proceeded to arrest the stepfather after allegedly being found partially clothed near the dead girl’s body.

At the time of his arrest, he is reported to have appeared under the influence of an illegal substance. On Wednesday afternoon, the State Attorney General (FGE) confirmed the stepfather had been arrested and that an investigation was underway.

“The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports that it has opened an investigation into the femicide of a minor, as well as the arrest by the Municipal Police of the alleged perpetrator, who was her stepfather.

“The events occurred this afternoon at a home located in Supermanzana 93 in the municipality of Benito Juárez, where the victim was found by her mother. Although she immediately called for help, the minor had already died.
