Cancun, Q.R. — A man wanted for domestic violence in the death of his girlfriend has been arrested in the city of Cancun. Agents of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) fulfilled an arrest warrant in the state of Quintana Roo with the detainment of Rafael Alejandro “N”.
Rafael Alejandro “N” was wanted for femicide in the murder of his girlfriend in the municipality of Ecatepec in January of 2022. According to the FGJEM, the woman was hit repeatedly and died.
Investigations by the State Prosecutor’s Office determined that between the night of January 23 and the early hours of January 24, 2022, the victim and the now detainee were drinking alcoholic beverages inside a home in the municipality of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, where at some point they began to argue.
During the argument, Rafael Alejandro “N” is accused of repeatedly hitting the victim “in various parts of the body”, causing her death. He then fled the scene. He has been on the run since with a warrant out for his arrest. He was finally captured in Cancun July 7, 2023.
“Authorities from the state of Quintana Roo detained this individual in the city of Cancun and informed FGJEM personnel, through existing collaboration agreements between the Attorney General’s Offices and Attorney General’s Offices throughout the country.
“Elements of the Investigation Police (PDI) traveled to the state to comply with the court order against the person involved and transferred him to the State of Mexico to admit him to the Ecatepec Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center,” the Fiscalía Edoméx reported.
