Speeding driver blamed after traveling in wrong direction down one-way street

Cancun, Q.R. — A city combi reported traveling in the wrong direction down a one-way street left eight of its passengers injured after colliding with a car. The crash happened Thursday morning along 71 Avenue and 56 Street.

Three ambulances responded to reports of the two vehicle accident that left the private car pushed up against a power pole. Aside from emergency services, CFE personnel were called in to deal with the damaged electrical post.

According to witnesses, the driver of the combi was speeding in the wrong direction of a one-way street when he came upon a car. Being unable to avoid the car, the front of the combi ended up crashing into the back driver’s side of the car.

All eight were transferred to Cancun hospitals. Tow trucks were requested by Cancun Transit to remove the crumpled cars from the public road. It is not known how long CFE personnel were at the site repairing the damaged pole.
