Cancun, Q.R. — A weekend drowning was reported in a popular lagoon on the outskirts of Cancun. The ABC Lagoon in the El Pedregal neighborhood is popular with area residents and has been the site of drownings in the past.
The body of a man who was reported missing after he went for a 10:00 p.m. swim was found by divers. A friend he was with, Cornelio E, reported that his friend had been drinking when he entered the water. When he didn’t come back, authorities were called.
Firemen and specialized divers were called in to recover the body. They searched the dark lagoon waters for several hours before finally locating the drowned victim. He has been identified as 29-year-old Gerardo N.
Members of the forensic medical team were called to remove the body. Gerardo N was originally from Mexico City.
