SMN reports polar air mass for Yucatan Peninsula

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cold to very cold is how the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) is describing the next few days for the Yucatan Peninsula. Forecasts for Cancun, Riviera Maya include a drop in temperatures and increase in wind as a cold front approaches the region.

SMN says that while cold front No. 17 extends over the Caribbean Sea, it will do so without affecting the country, however, the polar air mass that drives it in interaction with the subtropical jet stream will cause a cold to very cold environment over most of the country when a new and intense cold front (No. 18) approaches the northern border of Mexico.

Servicio Meteorológico Nacional says from Thursday (December 03) to Saturday (December 05), an intense cold front (No. 18) of polar air will begin to pass over the central region of the country, fully reaching the Yucatan Peninsula by the weekend.

While temperatures for Chihuahua, Durango and Sonora are expected to drop to between -5 and -10C, temperatures for the Yucatan Peninsula, including Cancun and Riviera Maya, will hover around 28C for the days and 18C for the nights.
