Six minors rescued from human trafficking ring in Cancun Hotel Zone

Cancun, Q.R. — Six minors rescued from a human trafficking ring have been handed over to state authorities. The minors have been placed in the care of the state’s DIF (the National System for Integral Family Development) after being forced to work in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Cancun police involved in the rescue of the minors did not provide a lot in the way of information, but have said that they were being exploited. The arrests of two adults were also part of the Wednesday night undercover operation.

In a brief public message, the FGE said “agents of the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit, in an undercover operation, rescued 6 minors and detained two subjects for the crime of human trafficking in its form of forced labor in the hotel zone. The minors were transferred to the DIF.”

The operation took place at an establishment around Kilometer 12 of Kukulkan Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone. Several police units and numerous officials were at the scene of the operation that happened during the late night hours.
