Cancun, Q.R. — Three burned homes was the end result of a palapa fire that began in one. Cancun firemen were on scene in the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood off Rancho Viejo Avenue after reports of a fire.
By the time they arrived, flames had already spread to other nearby homes with the same wood frame and palapa grass roofs. Strong winds fanned flames that ended up consuming all three.
Paramedics treated several people for mild smoke inhalation. No serious injuries were reported. Cancun firemen have yet to determine the cause of the original fire.
