Second suspect arrested in mistaken identity shooting of family

Cancun, Q.R. — A second arrest has been made in the Cancun murder of a teenage boy from August of 2022. The State Attorney General says Erick “A” was picked up on an outstanding arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in the shooting death that took place in 2022.

On the morning of the attack, the family was traveling in a car in Cancun when they were intercepted and shot at outside a hotel. It was later revealed that the shooting was mistaken identity.

Three people from inside the car were shot. One of the two teenage boys from inside the car died later in hospital. The father and second teenage boy were treated and survived.

The State Attorney General says Erick “A” “was arrested for his probable participation in the crime of qualified homicide and attempted homicide to the detriment of two foreign victims, a minor and an adult, both of whom are confidential.”

Erick “A” is the second of three wanted in the shooting to be arrested. The Attorney General says the first male taken into custody for the August 8, 2022 shooting in Cancun was detained in Villmar I of Playa del Carmen.

The second arrest is now that of Erick “A”. Both detainees have been admitted to the Social Reintegration Center of the city of Cancun. The third suspect, who also has an outstanding arrest warrant, remains on the run.
