Second shooting in less than 12 hours reported connected to Tulum music festival

Tulum, Q.R. — Police in Tulum responded to another shooting that took place Friday reported to be connected to a Thursday music festival. It was the second attack in less than 12 hours that, this time, left three people injured inside a private cenote.

The attack, which occurred around 2:00 p.m. south of Tulum Avenue, was the second involving gun fire on Friday. According to initial reports, armed subjects opened fire on event workers inside the private cenote club, injuring three people, one seriously.

Guests inside the cenote reported hearing bursts of gunfire which caused them to take cover. Three people were found with gunshot wounds. One was treated at the scene. Two others were rushed to hospital, one in serious condition after being shot several times.

Due to the severity of their injuries, two of the victims were rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital. The two shooting victims taken to hospital have been identified as 30 year old D.J.P.N. with a gunshot wound to the back.

The second shooting victim has been identified as 37 year old J.E.M.N., an Argentine citizen, reported in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck, face, arms and chest. The identity of the third injured person treated at the scene has not been confirmed.

There are reports that this second shooting was against people related to the electronic music festival that was held Thursday night in Tulum. Authorities have not commented on either of the Friday Tulum shootings. Arrests have not been announced.

Early Friday, a man reported at the festival was lead away by two others. His body was found on a dirt road Friday morning. He had been shot to death. According to local media, this latest incident is being reported as also connected to the Thursday night music festival.
