Tulum, Q.R. — Another fire has claimed a hotel palapa, this time in Tulum. On Monday, dozens of hotel guests were evacuated from the Bahía Príncipe hotel after one of their large palapas caught fire.
Firemen were on scene where they spent about an hour fighting back the blaze. Firefighters were successful in extinguishing flames before they spread to other areas of the hotel. No injuries were reported since all guests and staff were quickly evacuated.
Authorities from Civil Protection continue to investigate the possible cause of the fire, which left the hotel’s front facing palapa severely charred.
On May 25, a palapa of the Grand Palladium hotel located between Puerto Aventuras and Tulum in Riviera Maya also caught fire. The massive grass structure, which served as an entrance lobby to the hotel, burned in its entirely. Playa del Carmen firemen were also able to prevent flames from spreading beyond the initial palapa.
