The search was made against the homeowner in relation to investigations by the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) into alleged money laundering and other financial crimes.

A search of another home in the Del Arco subdivision owned by the same person was reported to have taken place at the same time in the city of Merida.

Both the Cancun and Merida searches were executed on federal judge warrants, which also includes other proceedings in another property in Isla Dorada in the Cancun Hotel Zone and a fourth home located in Playacar in Playa del Carmen.

The ongoing investigation had identified at least one owner of several high-end homes who has been accused of an embezzlement scheme involving at least one other person, a man, exceeding 140 million pesos.

Federal authorities involved in the investigation have not confirmed the names of those alleged involved.

On Monday, Puerto Morelos mayor Blanca Merari confirmed the search of the current home she rents in Cancun, clarifying that she was not arrested and that the FGR investigation is related to the owner of her rented house.
