Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz says she was not arrested Monday during a search of her home. The mayor clarified that the search of her rental home was in connection with the owner of the property.
On Monday, personnel from the State Attorney of the Republic (FGR) searched the property of Lagos del Sol where Tziu Muñoz lives. The federal police operation was carried out early Monday morning at a residence in the Lagos del Sol residential area in Cancun.
FGR ( Fiscalía General de la República) personnel who performed the search were accompanied by the Secretariat of the Navy. Authorities were seen entering the Jaguares sub-condominium where they carried out the search that lasted for several hours.
The intervention sparked rumors of the mayor’s possible arrest, however, Blanca Merari clarified that she lives in the property as a tenant that she contracts through a real estate company.
The FGE has not released a statement regarding the operation. The administration of the Lagos del Sol residential complex confirmed the entry of federal agents during the early morning hours as well as the development of a search warrant in the Jaguares sub-condominium.
