Cancun, Q.R. — The body of a young teenage boy reported missing in a Cancun lagoon Monday afternoon has been found. Search divers located the boy’s body in the lagoon Tuesday afternoon.

The boy drowned in the Cancun lagoon while with a school friend Monday. The two boys entered the water Monday afternoon on a boat that overturned. Only one of the boys made it to shore.
Authorities were made aware of the second missing boy around 4:00 p.m. Monday. Divers immediately began a search and rescue attempt, however, they were forced to stop after three hours due to darkness.
The search and recovery mission was resumed Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. at which time divers reentered the lagoon in search of the boy. Using underwater drones and scouring the surface by boat, his body was found at 3:45 p.m.
Divers from Civil Protection found his body at the bottom of the lagoon. He was resurfaced and handed over to the coroner. The boy’s mother, Irene “N”, was at the lagoon when her son’s body was recovered.
