Search area expanded for two missing Cancun cyclists

Cancun, Q.R. — Four full days have elapsed since the disappearance of two cyclists who left Cancun Sunday, headed toward the town of Francisco May.

Volunteers and authorities have been searching for the missing pair since they were reported missing Sunday. In a statement, the State Attorney General’s Office said that search protocols were activated by the Unit for Missing Persons to locate 33-year-old Rosendo Ibáñez and 45-year-old José Vicente Pérez.

“Ministerial Police, Prosecutor of the Public Ministry in coordination with elements of Civil Protection, Firefighters, Cyclists and Motorcyclists have made tours in the area where friends and family reported the two people went, but they have not been located,” they said.

The search radius has been extended several kilometers with the help of tracking technology.

Both men went missing August 4 after they headed out for an extreme bike tour. The pair left Cancun Sunday and were reportedly headed toward the town of Francisco May. They have not been heard from since 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
