Running red light sends 8 to Cancun hospital from 3 vehicle crunch

Cancun, Q.R. — Eight people were sent to hospital Sunday morning from a three vehicle crunch in Cancun. Allegations of a public transport combi running a red light has been the said cause of the early morning accident.

Eight people were injured, several of them seriously, after a State Land Transportation (TTE) unit allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Miguel Hidalgo and Lombardo Toledano Avenues.

In the intersection, the combi was met by a tourist transport van. The impact caused the two vans to spin and collide with an oncoming Jeep. City emergency services were made aware of the accident around 8:00 a.m.

Paramedics reported treating a total of eight people, some of whom were seriously injured. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the TTE combi, 45 year old José Luis “V”, run a red light through the intersection.

The Transporte Terrestre Estatal (TTE) van was broadsided by a second van being driven by 56 year old Marcario “B”. His van then slammed into a private SUV driven by 52 year old Rubén Alejandro “C”. His SUV spun into a city streetlight.

All three vehicles were damaged in the collision. There are reports one of the accident victims suffered a serious head injury and was transferred to hospital in critical condition.

City surveillance cameras will be used to determine the exact cause of the crash.
