Cancun, Q.R. — A routine traffic stop lead Cancun police to the discovery of a possible smuggling operation. On Friday, a white van was pulled over in SM 236. During questioning, the driver of the unit identified himself as a tourism worker transporting tourists to a hotel.
The driver presented a card issued by the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) that accredited him as a tourist service provider, however, his nervous attitude raised an alarm for which he was asked to step out of the vehicle.
An inspection of his van revealed a firearm along with six undocumented men and seven women of Cuban nationality.
The driver of the van, 33-year-old Noe N, was arrested. Officers from the National Institute of Migration (INM) were requested for assistance with the 13 undocumented Cuban nationals.
