Cancun, Q.R. — A passenger van that overturned near the Cancun International Airport Saturday had authorities scrambling to transport those injured to hospital.
With an undetermined number of injured, a white passenger van was reported overturned at Ramal-Punta Nizuc near the entrance of the Cancun International Airport. Various rescue and emergency bodies were on site to tend to the scene of the accident, which was reported during the early morning hours of Saturday when the van reportedly hit a streetlight. The impact from the hit caused the van to overturn. The driver of the unit was not injured.
Federal police also responded to the accident. While little information has been released about the accident, the driver of the van, Gustavo N, was taken into police custody since it is believed that speed was a factor. Gustavo N will be held until damages incurred are paid to the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancún).
