Roadblock in Cancun Hotel Zone set up to flush out wanted suspect

Cancun, Q.R. — Traffic was affected Wednesday due to a police roadblock in the Cancun Hotel Zone. Authorities were in search of a stolen vehicle that had been used in an armed robbery.

The roadblock was set up along Kukulcán Boulevard early Wednesday afternoon. The SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) reported they were searching for a car whose driver was involved in a robbery shortly before.

The stolen vehicle report, made through 911, indicated the presence of armed people which activated a police deployment in the area. In response, two checkpoints were set up, one at kilometer 2 and the other at kilometer 26 to filter vehicles.

Traffic was affected for less than an hour while police combed through circulating vehicles in search of the car reported involved in the robbery.

“A car reported stolen is recovered on Kukulcán Boulevard. The vehicle was located following a report of theft in the Hotel Zone. State and municipal police authorities implemented a search and location operation.

Police filtered traffic Wednesday in search of their target vehicle.

“In a matter of minutes, a vehicle that had been stolen from its owners and used to commit a robbery was recovered. Citizens are asked to be patient since a security operation was deployed in the area to locate the alleged perpetrators.”
