Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun restaurant remains closed after a kitchen gas explosion on Tuesday. Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, the Director of Cancun Civil Protection, indicated that the restaurant will remain closed while the corresponding authorities carry out their investigation.
On Tuesday, an accumulation of gas inside the restaurant’s kitchen caused an explosion inside Plaza Las Americas. The explosion left two injured. It also blew out several glass windows and destroyed a large section of the kitchen.
Riveroll Ribbon says authorities are still looking into the exact cause of the Tuesday morning explosion that rocked an large area of the mall.
It was shortly after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday when Cancun authorities were notified of the explosion. Arturo Sosa Muñoz, head of Cancun fire department dispatching, said they received the report at 9:12 a.m.
Two units and six firemen were sent to the scene where they confirmed an LP gas explosion due to an accumulation of gas inside the restaurant. Two restaurant workers, Alejandro “H” and Rodrigo “S”, received minor burns. They were treated by paramedics before being transferred to an area hospital.
