Rescue team recovers floating body from Cancun cenote

Cancun, Q.R. — A specialized cenote rescue team was brought in Saturday after reports of a floating body. Residents in Cancun’s Avante region called for help after seeing the man’s body floating in a neighborhood cenote.

His body was discovered by area residents around 9:30 Saturday morning. Municipal Police responding to the report arrived to confirm the floating body at which time a specialized rescue team was requested.

The team, which consisted of members of the Cancun fire department and Civil Protection, were able to recover the body of the man, whose identity was not known at the time.

The incident happened in a cenote located around one and a half kilometers off José López Portillo Avenue. Foul play is not suspected. The man, reported to be around 30, is believed to have drowned after entering the cenote the night before.
