Cancun, Q.R. — A city taxi driver was rushed to hospital Sunday night after being shot while being chased through city streets. The male driver was found inside the cab by passersby who initially reported the incident as a car accident.
Nearby residents rushed to the scene after hearing the car crash through the fence of an Aguakan treatment plant. The taxi came to a stop next to an electrical register which caused it to catch fire.

The driver was pulled from the burning vehicle by residents and laid on the ground while they waited for an ambulance.
Responding paramedics arrived to find the taxi driver had been shot in the head. He was rushed to a Cancun hospital in critical condition from the 8:00 p.m. incident.
Police scoured the area for the gunmen but came up empty handed. Initial reports say the cab crashed while he was being chased along Comalcalco Avenue.
Police were at the scene Sunday night for nearly two hours. Additional information has not been released.
