Cancun, Q.R. — A heavy rain combined with speed is being blamed for a 10 car pile up in the Cancun Hotel Zone. On Tuesday afternoon, Transit Officers were called to the scene of the car crunch at Kilometer 26 of the Hotel Zone.
There, nearly a dozen vehicles were found facing different directions on the same side of the road. According to preliminary information, the 5:00 p.m. Kukulcán Boulevard crash started after a passenger van skidded off the highway.
His leaving the road caused another nine, in a domino effect, to crash. The chain reaction started when the first vehicle tried to avoid the skidding van.
A total of seven people were reported injured in the 10 car crash. Paramedics treated the injured on scene. No one required hospitalization.
Traffic was affected for around two hours as National Guard dealt with the situation, clearing cars and debris from the busy federal road.
