Cancun, Q.R. — An urban passenger transport bus caught fire while being driven along Kukulcán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone that left the bus completely destroyed.
The bus fire was reported around midnight which sent emergency services of Cancun to attend to flames that quickly engulfed the entire bus. The bus, which was from Maya Caribe, was leaving the hotel zone when it caught fire.
Cancun firemen, along with emergency personnel and Civil Protection, were on site. Authorities reported that according to 46-year-old Simon N, the bus driver, the mechanical failure began at kilometer 2, and with continued driving, resulted in a loud blow from under the bus, which initiated the fire.
All passengers were evacuated from the bus, which minutes later, was completely engulfed in flames. There were no reported injuries.
