Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The main suspect in the 2022 murder of a Playa del Carmen beach club manager has been sentenced. During his oral trial hearing, the State Attorney General (FGE) obtained a guilty verdict for the shooting death of Federico Mazzoni.

Federico Mazzoni was the manager of the Mamitas Beach Club in central Playa del Carmen. In January of 2022, he was shot to death inside the bathroom of the restaurant during a meeting with two men.
On Sunday, the FGE reported a prison sentence of 37 years and six months for Luis Gustavo Jiménez Juárez for the aggravated homicide of Mazzoni.
Police said “the events that led to the conviction occurred on January 25, 2022 at a beach club on 28th Street with the federal maritime zone, where an accomplice of the now sentenced man arrived and requested the presence of the victim.
“Subsequently, the accused entered along with two other subjects. These individuals led the victim to the establishment’s restrooms where they opened fire, killing him.
“They then fled the scene. The now-convicted man, along with an accomplice, used a jet ski to escape.

“According to the investigation, the motive for the murder was that the victim (Mazzoni) allowed a police operation to be carried out at the beach club.”

Police said in addition to the prison sentence of 37 years and six months, Luis Gustavo Jiménez Juárez must pay a fine of 216,495 pesos, as well as 864,350 pesos for material damages. In 2022, a second accomplice, as well as the man who provided the getaway jet ski, were also arrested.
