Cancun, Q.R. — Police have begun an investigation into the Wednesday night shooting death of a Cancun club owner. The man, identified as Tomás “S”, was shot and left for dead outside his nightclub Life Terraza.

The shooting, which happened at a bar on Huayacán Avenue, left one dead and three injured. One of the injured is reported to be a police officer-bodyguard. Authorities have said the shooting is related to dealing drugs.
According to witnesses, an armed group arrived in a taxi and stormed the premises, opening fire without warning. More than 20 shots were reportedly aimed at the businessman and his bodyguards.
Those shot were inside the club which was under renovation and set for reopening in coming days.
Authorities issued a statement late Thursday morning saying, “the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports the opening of an investigation following the events that occurred at a bar undergoing renovation in the municipality of Benito Juárez, where one person died and three others were injured by gunfire.

“Furthermore, the main line of investigation is related to drug dealing and public health crimes.
“This Social Representative reaffirms its commitment to working in coordination with authorities at all three levels of government to clarify the events, find those responsible, and bring them to justice.”

According to local media reports, Tomás “S” has a past of accusations that included fraud related to organizing music concerts. Another of his nightclubs located in the city center had been mentioned in investigations for alleged illegal activities, including selling drugs in restrooms and providing shelter for criminals.
