Police responding to shots fired in Cancun Hotel Zone construction site make arrest

Cancun, Q.R. — After the second report in a week of a criminal disturbance at a Cancun Hotel Zone construction site, police made an arrest. On Wednesday, one male was taken into custody from the hotel construction site after police responded to reports of gunfire.

It was the second time in less than a week that construction workers had called police after being threatened. On Sunday, police responded to the report of workers being stripped of their personal belongings in a mass robbery.

On Wednesday, Cancun police were back at the same construction site, this time, responding to reports of shots fired. A search operation for those responsible lead to the arrest of one young male.

According to preliminary information, two gunmen arrived at the site in search of two men, reported to be brothers and drug suppliers to the workers. Once on site, the two brothers ran, at which time one of the gunman began to fire.

The pair managed to escape, however, one of the two men aboard the getaway motorcycle was arrested after the bike skidded and he was left injured in nearby mangrove.

Investigating officers are reported to have located at least 10 shell casings from the scene.
