Police make arrests in ongoing home, business robberies around Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — Elements of the National Guard along with police agents participated in an operation that led to the arrest of several subjects in Cancun.

The head of the State Public Security Jesús Alberto Capella Ibarra, confirmed the operation saying “We had a confrontation with alleged members of a criminal group in the 503 super block on Chumpón Street in the municipality of Benito Juárez.”

“There are people detained and weapons seized. I thank the Ministerial Police and the National Guard for their support and joint work. More details later,” he added.

The operation that resulted in 10 people being arrested occurred after two were detained after committing a violent robbery. The arrest of those two lead authorities to a group, all of whom, were taken into police custody.

The group are alleged to have committed numerous home and business burglaries at gunpoint. The pair that lead to the group were arrested after a home robbery Tuesday in Region 206, from which they managed to take cash, jewelry and a van, which was abandoned and recovered by police.
