Police in Cancun capture criminal group member believed responsible for city threat messages

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police took pursuit of individuals allegedly linked to a criminal group. Police were successful in taking one of the group members into custody as well as the seizure of intimidating messages.

According to the report, the arrest was made after Cancun police began their search for a white Yaris. Police believed the car was being used by criminal gang members to place threatening messages around the city with the latest being found on the Plaza Las Américas bridge.

Using city surveillance cameras, police detected the car near the Cielo Nuevo subdivision from where they followed it before intercepting it along Avenue 20 de Noviembre. However, the driver fled and a pursuit began that ended on Avenue Bonampak after the driver ended up rolling the car.

Cancun police were successful in arresting its driver, but the two passengers, who made way for nearby mangrove, were able to evade capture. Inside the vehicle, police found other threatening messages that they believe the group were intending to place around the city.
