Police detain suspect in Cancun business extortions

Cancun, Q.R. — The Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo reports that investigative police officers flagrantly apprehended Luis P for his probable participation in the crime of extortion against businessmen who own restaurants and bars in the municipality.

Through intelligence, Luis P was arrested in an operation led by elements of the Investigative Police. The accused was captured at the intersection of Xcaret avenues with Yaxchilan in Superblock 35 of Cancun.

According to the first investigations, Luis P appeared in establishments demanding cash payments. He is accused of threatening to harm employees and customers. He is believed a member of a criminal organization.

Police say at the time of his arrest, Luis P was carrying a cell phone (9982305488) through which he made extortion calls to his victims. Police say if any person received extortion calls from that phone number, they are encouraged to file a complaint.
