Cancun, Q.R. — The suspect in at least 20 city convenience store robberies was arrested after an aggressive outburst. Cancun police say Manuel Jesús was taken into custody Tuesday on disobedience and resistance charges after assaulting officers and physically attacking their police unit.
The arrest took place on José López Portillo Avenue when the man walked out in front of the patrolling unit and was almost hit. When police stopped to question him, he became aggressive, threatening and insulting the officers.
After being taken into custody, police reported his involvement in more than 20 city store robberies. In a statement, the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) said “Manuel Jesús, allegedly involved in the crime of Disobedience and Resistance of Private Parties, was arrested.
“The male is related to more than 20 cases of robberies at convenience stores in the municipality of Benito Juárez. Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, were carrying out surveillance tours when suddenly, a person crossed in front of the unit in an unusual and defiant manner, so the driver had to brake suddenly to avoid hurting him.
“When checking if he needed help, the subject approached the window and began to hit the windows. On one occasion, the officers were able to get out of the patrol car to try to start a dialogue, however, the subject continued with a very aggressive attitude, referring to a series of threats and insults.
“The events occurred on José López Portillo Avenue between the corner of Xuencal Avenue and Timul Street in block 59, block 37 of the municipality of Benito Juárez. He was arrested and taken to the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office to be placed at the disposal of the authorities.”
