Cancun, Q.R. — The Specialized Cancun Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion arrested a man in flagrante delicto. The man was arrested Monday “for his alleged participation in acts that could constitute the crime of extortion,” they reported.
Juan Ismael “N” was captured during a sting operation after “the victim reported that on September 24 of this year, he was in his business when he received a message on his phone in which they demanded 40,000 pesos.”
According to the police report, “if he did not pay, they would burn his premises.”
The victim agreed to meet his extortionist to make a payment of 15,000 pesos, however, on September 27, the same person contacted him again to demand another 25,000 pesos.
Since an official complaint had already been filed, police set up a sting operation. The business owner agreed to meet his extortionist a second time to make another payment. From there, police arrested Juan Ismael “N” in flagrante delicto.
