Kantunilkín, Q.R. — Produce farmers say they are suffering from the passing of Hurricane Delta with an estimated 2,400 hectares of crop affected. The Lázaro Cárdenas field was the most affected after the passage of the hurricane with crops of corn, papaya maradol, tomato, banana and chile being the hardest hit.
Salvador Rosas Vargas of the Lázaro Cárdenas city council said that the evaluation of the damage caused by the hurricane is being carried out with more than half of the 33 communities experiencing damage. He said that resources will be requested from the National Fund for Natural Disasters (FONDEN) which, before the hurricane, was canceled but due to the impact of the storm, the federal government said that it will be reactivated to support the affected municipalities.
He stressed that the damaged crops were in full production and that farmers were only a few days away from the start of harvest.
