Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun airport passenger who intended to travel with a suitcase of packaged cocaine was arrested. The passenger, who has not been named, was taken into custody by National Guard after custom agents confirmed an X-ray scan.

The arrest happened Tuesday inside the Cancun International Airport. According to a National Guard statement, 25 packages of cocaine was located inside a suitcase during an inspection.
The physical inspection was carried out when, during an X-ray scan, custom agents detected the unusual packages.
“The State Coordination of the National Guard in Quintana Roo informs the public that, in compliance with the National Public Security Strategy, members of the National Guard, in support of the National Customs Agency of Mexico, during preventive baggage inspection activities at the Cancun International Airport, located and seized a suitcase using X-rays,” Guardia Nacional reported.
“Inside the suitcase were 25 packages of a white substance with characteristics of cocaine, and the owner of the luggage was arrested.”
National Guard did not elaborate on the nationality of the passenger or where they were headed.
