Passenger found with unlicensed gun inside Cancun International sentenced to prison

Cancun, Q.R. — A plane passenger caught with an unregistered gun inside Cancun International has been sentenced. The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) said they obtained a conviction against a person for carrying an unlicensed firearm.

The FGR, through its Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office in the state of Quintana Roo, obtained a conviction against Humberto “M” for the crime of carrying a firearm without a license.

According to the FGR (Fiscalía General de la República), members of the National Guard detained a person at the FBO (Fixed Base Operator) Terminal of the Cancun International Airport where private general aircraft land.

“When entering his suitcase in the X-ray machine, a firearm and two magazines were detected in his luggage, so he was placed at the disposal of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in the state,” they said.

According to the FGR, Humberto “M” was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for carrying a firearm in Mexico without a license.

“With these actions, the FGR reaffirms its commitment to society for the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes,” they said.
