Cancun, Q.R. — A palapa fire at Playa Tortugas in the Cancun Hotel Zone has left at least one building in ruins. The Thursday fire, which occurred just after midnight, was quickly extinguished by firemen after responding to the Emergency 911 call.
The palapa roof of a building used as a warehouse to store recreational items, burned in its entirety. At around 1:15 a.m., after flames were extinguished, six firemen under the command of Elías Ramírez located the remains of items inside that included diving tanks, lifejackets, inflatable water games, chairs and sound system.
A cause for the fire has yet to be determined.
