Pair who forced kidnapping victim to pay his own ransom captured

Cancun, Q.R. — A man and woman who forced a kidnapping victim to pay his own ransom have been captured. The pair had been on the run for their alleged involvement since 2023.

According to the State Attorney General’s Office, agents of the Investigative Police complied with arrest warrants against Daniela Guadalupe “N” and José Oswaldo “N”. Both were picked up “for their probable participation in events possibly constituting the crime of kidnapping.”

Authorities say initial investigations indicate that on December 9, 2023, when the victim was closing his business on Talleres de la Avenue in SM 200 of Cancun, he was intercepted by one of the attackers who allegedly forced him to get into his car, which was also approached by two people – a man and a woman – all with firearms.

They then left. During the journey, the victim was robbed of more than 80,000 pesos, part in cash. He was freed on the condition that he pay the balance by bank transfer.

Based on the complaint, arrest warrants were issued which were carried out by elements of the Investigative Police. Both were taken into custody from the streets of Cancun and transferred to the Social Reintegration Center in Benito Juárez.
