Cancun, Q.R. — The mother and stepfather of an abused Cancun girl have been sentenced to 32 years. Authorities say both were sentenced for the beating death of the little girl who was also found to have been sexually abused.

“Based on evidence presented by the State Attorney General’s Office and presented in an oral trial, a judge sentenced a man and a woman to 32 years and six months in prison for the crime of femicide against a minor,” the FGE said.

Anahí Brito López, the girl’s mother and her boyfriend, Marco Antonio Hernández Hernández, were sentenced for the 2020 death. According to the FGE, “the incidents for which they will spend more than three decades in prison occurred on September 16, 2020 at approximately 6:00 a.m. when the victim was with her mother and stepfather at their home in the Tres Reyes neighborhood.

“These individuals insulted and beat the minor who died as a result of her injuries. The autopsy revealed that she had also been a victim of sexual abuse and child abuse.
