Pair sentenced: Cancun judge issues guilty verdict for murder, attempted murder and extortion

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has sentenced two men to 40 years in prison for murder, attempted murder and extortion. Local authorities reported on the sentencing of Ricardo Damián Dorantes Granados and Francisco Damián Camargo Ramírez for the 2022 crimes.

Police say in December of 2022, the accused appeared at a local business to demand payment of “protection money”, leaving intimidating messages. The next day they returned to the establishment in SM 526 and fired weapons, killing a man and attacking another person present.

Both men were found guilty of aggravated homicide, attempted homicide and extortion.

During their sentencing, the Cancun judge imposed a 25 year prison sentence for the crime of aggravated homicide and 15 years for extortion.

In addition to the 40-year prison sentence, the Judge imposed a fine of 240,550 pesos and the payment of 874,722 pesos for material damages.
