Cancun, Q.R. — Two men accused of extorting Cancun taxi drivers at a central bus station on a daily basis have been arrested. On Monday, police said Israel “N”, alias Anillo and Carlos “N”, alias La Comadre, are in custody.
The were arrested in a coordinated operation between the Ministerial Police and the Centurion Group of the State Police. Both men were arrested for allegedly demanding extortion money from city cab drivers who worked the ADO bus terminal area.

Both men were identified by a group of taxi drivers as those responsible for demanding the daily fees.
According to the police investigation, Israel “N” and Carlos “N” demanded a daily payment of 200 pesos from each of the 26 drivers operating in that location. The drivers were intimidated with threats to ensure payments.
On Monday, the State Attorney General (FGE) said that faced with constant harassment, the taxi drivers filed a complaint that led to the capture of Israel “N” and Carlos “N”.
Both men have been ordered to remain jailed during their trials. Police are continuing their investigation for the possibility of additional people in the taxi driver extortion scheme.
