Cancun, Q.R. — An early morning fire in a CFE substation in Cancun left part of station in ruins. The fire was reported in SM 227 early Sunday morning that had Cancun firemen deployed to the area.
Elements of the fire department responded to the 911 emergency call after the report of a transformer explosion followed by flames that were seen shooting from the station around 2:00 a.m.
Firemen were able to put out the fire at the Este Balam Substation using dry chemical extinguishers. An overload has been blamed for causing the fire. Cancun residents in two blocks of the substation in SM 227 were left without power for several hours while CFE personnel fix the middle-of-the night problem and restored service.
