Over two dozen inmates transferred out of Cancun prison

Cancun, Q.R. — More than two dozen inmates have been transferred out of the Cancun prison. The transfers were made by elements of the Navy and National Guard early Wednesday morning.

The 26 inmates were removed from the Cancun prison in order to strengthen security from within. According to the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana of Quintana Roo, “The Secretary of Citizen Security implemented actions to strengthen governance and security in the Quintana Roo Penitentiary Centers for which it carried out the transfer of 26 people from Cancun.”

The 26 inmates were transferred by air. The Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR) and National Guard (GN) collaborated in the procedure to safeguard order and security, they said.

The inmates were transferred to Federal Centers for Social Readaptation in Oaxaca and Chiapas, with the aim of depressurizing the prison load in the state, the agency added.
