Cancun, Q.R. — At least four people were rushed to Cancun hospital Friday night from a two vehicle crash. The crash happened on Chac Mool Avenue when, according to early information, the driver of an SUV was speeding and ended up overturning.
City emergency bodies were deployed to the area around 7:00 p.m. after reports of the accident. At the scene, police located a destroyed SUV on its roof and a compact car with a smashed in front.
The driver of the SUV is alleged to have attempted to take a corner at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The SUV slammed into several pieces of roadway infratstructre before rolling several times. Along the way, it hit the front of a small compact Matiz.
One person from inside the SUV was reported in critical conditon. The occupants of the Matiz were also taken to hospital for injuries sustained after being hit by the out of control SUV.
Firefighters, paramedics and city police arrived at the scene and assisted the occupants of both vehicles. Paramedics transported them to various hospitals.
Inside the rolled SUV, police officers found bottles of alcohol. Cancun Traffic Department personnel are working to determine responsibilities.
